As I work at getting the blog of the Baptist Heritage Council of Georgia up and running, I have been thinking about a subtitle for the blog name. I named the blog "The Baptist Heritage," which while an accurate name does not quite say what we hope this blog will be nor state what its purpose is.
So I have come up with the subtitle "Conservation & Conversation."
Here's my reasoning for using those two words (besides the obvious fact that they sound good together).
"Conservation": One purpose of the Baptist Heritage Council and of its blog is to conserve--to preserve, to protect, to insure the survival of--those historic Baptist principles that were listed on the first blog post and that are also ennumerated on the website of the Baptist Heritage Council.
But we want to do more than to "conserve" those principles--we also desire to talk about what they mean in changing times, in different situations, and for future generations.
Thus I settled on the word "Conversation" because we hope that this blog will be a catalyst for conversation--for discussion of, debate concerning, and analysis of-- historic Baptist principles and their ongoing relevance, value, and application.
So, the name of the blog is now "Baptist Heritage: Conservation & Conversation."

Welcome to the Blog of the Baptist Heritage Council
We hope that you will visit this blog regularly for up-to-date information related to the promotion and preservation of historic Baptist principles.
Our Mission
We will function with Christ as our model and Baptist principles as our guide, to help strengthen churches and individuals to understand better who we are as Baptists and Christians.
Our Story
Formed in April, 2000 by Georgia laypeople and clergy concerned about the direction of Baptists in Georgia, Baptist Heritage Council began work telling the Baptist story throughout the state, by visiting churches, publishing newsletters, and hosting speakers. We continue to tell the Baptist story of traditional values, commitment to Baptist principles and knowledge of Baptist history and heritage. We believe much of our heritage is being lost and want to continue the real face of Baptists.
Our Principles
Centrality of Christ
Authority of the Holy Scripture
Priesthood of Believers
Soul Competency
Religious Liberty
Separation of Church and State
Autonomy of the Local Church
Believers Baptism
Respect for Persons
Intellectual Integrity
Cooperative Spirit
Compassion for Unbelievers
Responsiveness to a Changing World
